Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks a Senior Transmission Engineer to lead the design of complex transmission line projects from concept through design completion, providing technical oversight and mentoring to the design staff.

Responsibilities include preparing equipment specifications and data sheets, leading conductor studies, performing grounding calculations, reviewing vendor drawings, and ensuring compliance with NESC, NERC, FERC and regional standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years transmission engineering experience required, EPC project experience preferred.
• Or Bachelor's Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years transmission engineering experience required, EPC project experience preferred.
• Or Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years transmission engineering experience required, EPC project experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of transmission design codes and computer skills.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
• Ability to travel and PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead transmission design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare transmission equipment specifications, RFQs, and data sheets.
• Lead conductor selection studies, lightning performance, and grounding calculations.
• Lead calculations for required electrical clearances per NESC and other codes.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and other disciplines.
• Develop project schedules, scope, budget, and staffing plans; manage change orders.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to engineers; ensure QA/QC adherence.
• Coordinate with field personnel on installation issues and field testing.
• Build client relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
• Lead cost proposals and project budgets; report performance.
