Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks a Senior Transmission Engineer to lead the design of complex transmission line projects. You will provide technical oversight, mentor design staff, and drive best practices across related projects.

You will coordinate equipment specs, RFQs, and bid summaries; conduct conductor selection studies and grounding calculations; and ensure adherence to NESC/NERC standards, QA/QC, and safety across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET-accredited program; 7 years of transmission engineering experience.
Or Bachelor's degree in Civil/related Eng Tech ABET; FE exam completed; 7 years transmission engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Lead transmission design from concept to design completion.
Prepare transmission equipment specs, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Lead economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance and grounding calculations/studies.
Lead calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or other applicable codes and resources.
Review transmission equipment vendor drawings and data interfaces.
Develop project schedules, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning.
Apply expert knowledge of transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
Mentor and guide junior engineers; ensure QA/QC across drawings and specs.
Lead client communications, build relationships, and pursue new business.
