Job summary

WSP seeks a Telecommunications Engineer – Technical Director to lead telecom infrastructure and system design for utility and industrial projects across the United States. The role involves guiding procurement, testing, documentation, and client engagement.

Ideal candidates have 12+ years of experience, strong leadership, and a deep knowledge of IP, Ethernet, MPLS, fiber, microwave, and SCADA networks, with travel as needed and a commitment to QA/QC and safety.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant telecommunications engineering experience.
• Advanced experience designing telecommunications infrastructure for critical facilities.
• Experience leading complex engineering projects and coordinating scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Independent work with technical guidance and supervision capabilities.
• Ability to prepare specs, network designs, provisioning documents, installation plans, test plans, and commissioning reports.
• Strong knowledge of network topologies, latency, synchronization, and resiliency.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive technical and project leadership for telecommunications engineering work.
• Lead telecommunications infrastructure and system design for conventional, renewable, and distributed generation facilities, substations, transmission and distribution systems, and microgrids.
• Specify equipment and oversee procurement, installation, testing, and provisioning documentation for fiber, microwave, PDH, TDM, OTN, and SONET.
• Lead the design and configuration of IP, Ethernet, MPLS, and data networks.
• Review OTDR reports and ensure QA/QC compliance.
• Use Pathloss or similar tools to design and verify microwave links.
• Oversee circuit channelization on TDM networks and evaluate packet-based network resiliency.
• Coordinate carrier services with providers and service requirements.
• Lead SCADA network design and paths for data users.
• Mentor and supervise project team members; promote innovation and compliance.
• Maintain client relationships and identify follow-on opportunities.
• Travel as required.
