Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks a Counsel to support Technology, Privacy, and Insurance matters in a hybrid role. You will draft and negotiate technology, data sharing, and cloud agreements, and advise on data privacy and AI governance under applicable laws.

The role requires a JD with 6+ years in technology contracting, privacy, or data security, preferably with in-house and insurance experience. Strong drafting and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• JD required and bar admission in at least one US jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of legal experience in technology, commercial contracting, privacy, data security, or AI governance.
• Law firm and in-house experience preferred.
• Insurance or regulated financial services exposure preferred.
• Privacy or AI certification (CIPP/US, CIPM, or AIGP) preferred.
• Willingness to obtain NJ in-house counsel license if not admitted there.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate technology, SaaS, cloud, data sharing, and vendor agreements using established templates and playbooks.
• Coordinate privacy, security, and AI terms with Information Security and risk-management teams.
• Advise on data use under GLBA, FCRA, and state privacy laws; support consumer privacy rights requests.
• Support compliance with NYDFS 23 NYCRR 500 and state data security laws; assist with cyber incident response.
• Develop and maintain AI governance materials and train business owners on governance requirements.
• Provide training and manage outside counsel as needed.
