Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Senior Technical Writer / Information Architect to lead the most technically demanding content on our internal Healthcare Platform knowledge site. You will own docset hierarchy, API references, and structured authoring across the platform, working with engineers and distinguished engineers to ensure quality and scalability.

You will telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. and mentor writers while maintaining high standards for documentation, templates, and taxonomy

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of technical writing in software/cloud/platform environments.
• 5+ years writing architecture guides, API references, and developer workflows.
• 3-5+ years collaborating with engineers, product owners, and SMEs in agile settings.
• 3+ years contributing to information architecture and docset structure.
• 2-3+ years mentoring writers and ensuring content quality.

Responsibilities

• Creates complex technical content including architecture and API documentation.
• Owns structural IA, template systems, and content frameworks.
• Leads cross-team content reviews and maintains content quality standards.
• Mentors writers and ensures consistency across documentation sets.
• Expert proficiency with developer-focused documentation formats (Markdown, reStructuredText, schema-driven formats, OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, distributed systems, APIs, or enterprise architecture.
• Experience with Git/GitHub-based documentation workflows (branching, PR reviews, linting, build pipelines, docs CI/CD).
• Ability to create diagrams and system visuals using Mermaid, Visio, Figma, or draw.io.
• Familiarity with structured authoring methodologies, metadata tagging, and taxonomy alignment.
• Understanding of WCAG accessibility requirements and content quality tooling.
