RLI Insurance Company is seeking a Technical Claim Director to lead the Personal Umbrella Major Case Unit, overseeing auto, premises, and personal liability claims. This fully technical role requires strategic thinking and expert claims handling while coordinating with carriers and defense counsel.

The position emphasizes independent work with no team management, strong analytical skills, and in-depth knowledge of umbrella/excess liability across multiple states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant legal or technical claims experience.
• Significant experience with large exposure third‑party liability claims.
• Experience with umbrella/excess handling and outside counsel management.
• Knowledge of Florida, California, New York, and Texas liability law.

Responsibilities

• Proactively manage Personal Umbrella Liability claims.
• Investigate and analyze complex coverage issues with detailed letters.
• Conduct timely investigations into liability and damages; recognize exposures.
• Develop effective resolution strategies and reserve considerations.
• Adhere to RLI’s Best Practices in claims handling.
