Job summary

RLI Insurance Company in Los Angeles is seeking a Technical Claim Director to oversee Personal Umbrella Liability claims within the Major Case Unit. This is a fully technical/file-handling role and does not manage a team.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree with JD strongly preferred and 8+ years of relevant legal or technical claims experience, including large exposure third-party liability on primary/excess basis. Expect collaborative work with carriers and counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant legal or technical claims experience.
• Significant experience with policy limit demands in Florida, Texas and California.
• Experience handling large exposure third-party liability claims on primary/excess basis.
• Ability to excel in fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Strong collaboration with primary carriers and defense counsel.

Responsibilities

• Proactively handle Personal Umbrella Liability claims with detailed investigation and monitoring of primary carrier activities.
• Investigate and analyze complex coverage issues and draft clear coverage letters.
• Conduct timely and comprehensive investigations into liability and damages to recognize exposures early.
• Focus on effective resolution strategies, including timely liability investigations and reserve setting.
• Ensure adherence to RLI's Best Practices in all claims handling activities.
