Job summary

Carle Health in Rockford, IL is seeking a surgical technologist to provide direct and indirect care during operative procedures. You will assist surgeons, prepare instruments, maintain sterile fields, and mentor or precept other technologists and students as needed.

The role requires BLS within 30 days and an accredited Surgical Technology certificate plus an Associate's degree in Surgical Technology. You must be able to work with various cases, be adaptable, and participate in on-call coverage

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days (AHA).
• Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology required.
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedures that’s timely, accurate, effective and efficient.
• Instruments, equipment and suture are appropriate, complete and functional.
• Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patient entering the room.
• Sets up case so that another can step into an organized back table and mayo.
• Has appropriate "have available" items.
• Uses resources wisely, avoids unnecessary opening.
• Motions are fluid and not redundant.
• Case setup time for various procedures within acceptable range.
• Collaborates with surgeon prior to case and adjusts as necessary.
• Precept surgical techs and RNs to prepare for procedures;Scrubs on simple to complex procedures.
• Able to "run mayo" independently.
• Adapts style to match surgeon and procedures.
• Confident and competent during routine and emergency procedures.
• Prepared for sequencing (clamp, cut, tie).
• Anticipates intra-op needs and responds appropriately.
• Mentors staff and students in planning for surgical events.
