Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Advisor – Substations & Protection to lead HV substation and protection engineering across our wind, solar and storage projects in North America.

Responsibilities include setting design standards, guiding procurement decisions, and coordinating with EPC partners. Requires 7+ years in substation design, HV experience, and strong relay coordination skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; concentration in power systems preferred.
Minimum seven (7) years of experience in electrical substation engineering and design for utility, transmission, renewables, or industrial power systems.
Experience with high‑voltage substations (69kV+ preferred, 138kV+ strongly preferred).
Proficiency in protective relay coordination and settings calculations for HV and EHV systems.
Experience with power system analysis and protection studies using industry tools such as ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS®E, PSLF.
Knowledge of engineering standards (NEC/NESC/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI) and reliability frameworks (NERC/FERC).
Working knowledge of protective relay platforms (SEL/GE).
Excellent communication and collaboration across disciplines; PE license a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead development and continuous improvement of substation and protection specifications, standards, and design requirements for wind, solar, and storage projects.
Manage external engineering firms and EPC subcontractors to ensure high engineering quality and project execution.
Direct design reviews of high voltage substations and protection schemes, including relay one-lines and wiring diagrams.
Develop and update internal engineering standards with Operations Engineering to drive standardization.
Coordinate design efforts with EPC partners and owners’ engineers, reviewing submittals for alignment with project requirements.
Support procurement in running RFPs and managing long‑lead materials such as main power transformers and HV breakers.
Act as subject matter expert for substation and protection engineering; advise on emerging technologies and regional transmission requirements (ERCOT, MISO, PJM, CAISO).
