Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Substation System Protection Engineer to design and implement protection and communication schemes for high voltage substations and renewable interconnection projects.

You will develop specifications, perform studies (short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination), and support field testing. Collaboration across clients and teams is essential in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 8 years related work experience in high voltage substation design – System Protection and Communication.
• PE License.
• Proficient with protection and control design tools and standards.
• Familiar with NERC System Protection Coordination Requirements (PRC).

Responsibilities

• Perform protection and communication design for high voltage/substation projects (4kV–230kV, >230kV).
• Develop protection and control specifications, SCADA/communications specs, and relay settings.
• Conduct short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination studies.
• Produce One-Line/Three-Line diagrams and associated schematics.
• Provide QA/QC support and field guidance during testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate with project team members and external stakeholders to meet milestones.
