Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Substation System Protection Engineer to design and protect high-voltage substations and renewable energy interconnections. You will develop protections, SCADA specs, relay settings, and coordination studies while coordinating with project teams to meet milestones.

Responsibilities include QA/QC of diagrams and schematics, technical support to field personnel, and mentoring junior staff. A PE license and 8+ years HV experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 8 years related work experience in high voltage substation design – System Protection and Communication.
• PE License.
• Proficient using ASPEN One Liner, ETAP, Power Factory, CYME Dist., or similar programs.
• Strong familiarity with NERC System Protection Coordination Requirements, including NERC PRC-001 and PRC-027.
• Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
• Good knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection and control specifications for HV substations (4kV–230kV and EHV).
• SCADA and communications specifications development.
• Create I/O mapping, points lists, and relay settings.
• Perform event analysis and studies (short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination, CT saturation).
• Produce QA/QC deliverables: one-line and three-line diagrams, current and potential schematics, control and alarm schematics, SCADA/communications schematics.
• Provide technical support to procurement and construction teams.
