Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply protective relaying and controls expertise for HV/EHV substations. You will lead a design team and guide engineering efforts from concept through detailed design, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

The role requires a BS in Engineering, 10+ years of protection/controls experience, and a PE license. Expect collaboration with clients and vendors, mentoring colleagues, and travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• This position requires a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• 10+ years of experience in protection, control, and telecommunications for HV substations.
• PE license is required.
• Experience as a client/firm liaison in lead roles.
• Experience with relay calculations documentation.
• Proficiency with design techniques and technical drawings.
• Familiar with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience with SEL/ABB/GE/Areva/Basler protective relays.
• Strong MS Office and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering and design team on substation modifications and upgrades.
• Prepare relay philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts and configurations.
• Guide engineers and designers in protection and controls design.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams and relaying/metering diagrams.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer reviews.
• Review others' work for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and vendors for timely designs.
• Review existing facilities and propose upgrades or replacements.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and support Communities of Practice.
