Job summary
Qualus is seeking a Principal Substation Protection & Control Engineer to lead the design of high-voltage substations, develop innovative, code-compliant engineering solutions, and mentor junior engineers across complex utility projects. This role blends technical leadership with client collaboration, ensuring quality, safety, and reliability from concept through construction.
The position may be performed remotely within the United States, with a preference for candidates in a hybrid schedule
Qualifications
- ABET-accredited electrical engineering program required.
- Minimum 15+ years in substation protection and control design.
- Professional Engineer license (P.E.) required.
- Strong analytical, design, and mentorship capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design substation protection and control systems compliant with codes and standards.
- Develop relay protection schemes, control philosophies, and related calculations.
- Create equipment specifications and cost estimates for engineered equipment.
- Prepare conceptual protection and control layouts for new and existing facilities.
- Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
- Mentor and review work of junior engineers and designers, ensuring QA/QC compliance.
