Job summary

WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Substation Project Engineer for our Houston, TX office, with Austin, TX as a considered location. You will lead design and construction efforts for utility-scale substations and related power systems.

The role requires 7–10 years of post-education experience, a PE license, and deep knowledge of substation design, protections, control systems, and codes. You will oversee multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate with clients and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post‑education experience as an electrical engineer providing substation design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
• Professional Engineer License.
• Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
• Extensive knowledge of substation design.
• Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations relating to electrical engineering principles, plans and specifications, and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical assistance and guidance for design, development, and construction of substations and related systems.
• Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller and less-complex projects, ensuring data integrity and code compliance.
• Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects, manage budgets, hours, and resources across multiple concurrent assignments.
• Prepare data and visualizations for interpretation or presentation of complex findings.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to address design and construction issues.
