Job summary

Dewberry seeks a Substation Physical Engineer to lead the growth of the HV substation design practice. The role combines technical leadership with mentoring, standard-setting, and project execution for utilities, government entities, and private institutions nationwide.

Based in a senior, client-facing capacity, you will oversee design packages, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure safety, operability, and constructability. PE licensure and 20+ years’ HV experience are required.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of experience on medium and high voltage substation design projects.
• PE licensure is required.
• Experience designing medium/high voltage substation electrical systems and producing design deliverables.
• Proven leadership in delegating to engineering and design staff.
• Self-starter with initiative, drive and determination.
• Experience with regulated utility substation design standards.
• Good knowledge of NEC, NFPA Life Safety Codes, and related codes.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills for coordination and client interface.

Responsibilities

• Meet with prospective and existing clients to demonstrate technical capabilities.
• Coordinate with Energy PMO leadership and energy client managers.
• Develop technical approach, engineer estimates, and organize the technical team.
• Collaborate with and manage multi-discipline teams across offices.
• Assist with training and mentoring staff.
• Engage with project deliverables including quality control reviews and QMS adherence.
• Serve as subject matter expert for internal team members.
• Provide technical and quality oversight of all project work.
• Establishing/improving engineering design standards.
• Adhere to project design schedules and budgets.
• Monitor staffing and advise on current and future needs.
• Work with operations and HR to recruit, develop, and retain energy talent.
• Promote Dewberry's culture, values, and client‑focused approach.
