Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer for its Boston-area operations to lead the growth of the medium and high voltage substation design practice. You will mentor a high-performing team and deliver impactful projects for utilities, government entities, and private institutions.

The role involves overseeing design packages, ensuring safety and constructability, developing standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of experience in medium and high voltage substation design.
• PE license is required.
• Experience designing medium/high voltage substation electrical systems and producing design deliverables.
• Proven leadership skills delegating to engineering and design staff.
• Self-starter with initiative, drive and determination.
• Knowledge of NEC and NFPA Life Safety Codes.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for coordination with disciplines and clients.

Responsibilities

• Meet with prospective and existing clients to demonstrate technical capabilities.
• Coordinate with Energy PMO leadership and energy client managers.
• Develop technical approach, engineer estimates, and organize the technical team.
• Collaborate with other groups and office locations.
• Manage multi-discipline teams and mentor staff.
• Oversee training and mentoring of staff.
• Ensure quality control reviews and compliance with quality management systems.
• Act as subject matter expert for internal teams.
• Provide technical and quality oversight of project work.
• Establish and improve engineering standards.
• Monitor staffing and advise on current and future needs.
• Work with HR to recruit and retain energy talent.
• Promote Dewberry’s culture, values, and client commitment.
