Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead high-voltage substation physical design projects. You will guide design development from concept through construction, ensuring code compliance and safety.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable power infrastructure. The role offers remote or hybrid work within the United States, with preferred sites near the following offices for hybrid options: Farmington, UT,

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• 7–10 years of experience in substation physical design.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and interact with clients/stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards.
• Prepare general arrangement, equipment layout, elevations, cable trench, grounding, conduit drawings, BOMs, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids and lightning protection plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations; develop design scope and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present engineering solutions; support project execution.
• Lead QA/QC processes and technical reviews of design packages; mentor junior engineers and designers.
