Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a structural engineer for substations who will apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and design to support client recommendations and reviews. The role involves calculations, design documents, and specifications, with opportunities to interact with clients and travel for site verifications.

Essential experience includes 5+ years in structural engineering for substations, bilingual Spanish/English, and ABET-accredited BSCE/MSCE.

Qualifications

• BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program with strong materials behavior knowledge.
• 5+ years as a practicing structural engineer on substations design/upgrades.
• Ability to communicate with client with appropriate technical detail.
• Occasional walk-downs and client site visits for scoping meetings.
• Experience writing support documentation for structural calculations.
• Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with accuracy.
• Knowledge of structural design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, speak, write).

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
• Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and foundations.
• Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations.
• Interface with the client and communicate technical information.
• Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
• Review others' work, including calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and suppliers for timely design.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings.
• Continue career growth via peer learning and Communities of Practice.
• Travel to client/vendor offices and substations for reviews, coordination, and field verification.
