Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design and analysis for nuclear facilities. You will collaborate with a multi-discipline team, guide junior engineers, and perform calculations, develop specs, and support drawings for projects at the Surry Nuclear Generating Station.

You will apply your knowledge of structural analysis and codes to steel, concrete, and foundation design, including wind and seismic loading, with occasional client and vendor visits for reviews and

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Five or more years of experience on a project team in design and analysis of structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a senior engineering position in structural engineering across cemented areas for nuclear facilities.
• Collaborate with a team of structural engineers and interface with other disciplines; guide less experienced teammates.
• Work onsite at Surry Nuclear Generating Station on design and analysis projects.
• Prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, and support drawing development.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment/piping supports, and foundations.
• Conduct structural analyses including wind and seismic loading.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and plant site coordination when needed.
