Job summary

Blue Origin, based in the United States, seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to perform complex structural analyses for lunar hardware within the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team. You will guide design choices to optimize thermal hardware as it progresses from CAD to flight-qualified parts.

Role requires strong leadership, communication, and a passion for safe human spaceflight; travel up to 15% may be required. Candidates with extensive aerospace experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering with 6+ years of related experience.
• Experience on launch vehicles, spacecraft, aircraft or similar in structural design of metallic components and assemblies.
• Vehicle load path distribution and first-order sizing.
• Knowledge of material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
• Strong understanding of structural design and analysis fundamentals.
• Creo proficiency for mechanical design.
• Ability to conduct structural analysis via hand calculations and FEM.
• Familiarity with Bruhn, Niu, Roark sizing methods.
• ASME Y14.5 GD&T expertise.
• Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes.

Responsibilities

• Interpret, decompose, and derive structural loads and requirements.
• Lead trade studies informing structural integrity of components and assemblies.
• Design, analyze, develop, and test secondary structures including additively manufactured parts and composites.
• Collaborate with thermal engineers on structurally sound, thermally appropriate components.
• Create 3D models, detail drawings, assemblies, and interface control documents.
• Coordinate with subsystem teams on structural interfaces.
• Provide on-site manufacturing support and travel as needed.
• Participate in subsystem structural verification test planning and data analysis.
• Work with teams selecting materials, fabrication processes, and suppliers.
• Develop tooling and equipment requirements for manufacturing and assembly facilities.
• Maintain activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
• Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers.
• Identify opportunities for improvements and cost savings.
