Job summary

Blue Origin in the United States is seeking a structural engineer to own the analysis, testing, and qualification of mechanical and fluid components for spaceflight hardware on the New Glenn program. You will perform hand calculations and FE analyses, support NSSL certification, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance mission assurance.

Experience with aerospace structures and FEA is required.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years in aerospace/launch-vehicle components.
  • Proficient in FEA codes: Nastran/Optistruct/Ansys/Abaqus.
  • Proficient with nonlinear FEA tools.
  • Strong FEM modeling knowledge.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis of aerospace components.
  • Experience with development and/or qualification testing.
  • Knowledge of aerospace design standards.
  • Familiarity with Bruhn, Niu, Roark formulas.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible status.

Responsibilities

  • Support early concept down select to ensure robust design solution.
  • Perform detailed hand calculations and FE analyses of primary and secondary aerospace components.
  • Conduct structural analysis of mechanical systems including umbilical systems, quick disconnects, valves, regulators, and actuators.
  • Support NSSL certification activities including risk closure and qualification gap assessments.
  • Document stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Develop dispositions for structural nonconformances with analytical justification.
  • Support cross-functional teams with inputs for configuration development and trade studies.
  • Improve enterprise analysis capabilities by developing automation tools for model creation and analysis reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members from various disciplines and manufacturing.
