Job summary

Blue Origin Engines seeks a structural analyst to design, analyze, and optimize engine components and assemblies, performing hand calculations and FEA; collaborate cross-functionally to ensure durability and life-cycle performance.

You will lead structural analysis of rotating and static hardware, evaluate strength, fatigue, and creep, and develop automation tools while supporting test plans for verification of requirements and data generation. Relocation and travel up to 10% are offered.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in an engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more analysis codes: ANSYS Workbench, Nastran, Abaqus, LS-Dyna.
  • Solid understanding of structural analysis/mechanics and failure modes (strength, fatigue, creep).
  • Experience with analysis of welded assemblies and bolted joints.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structural performance.
  • Demonstrated experience using scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.).
  • Experience with structural analysis of rotating machinery (turbopumps, compressors, fans).

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis of rotating and static components/assemblies through design, development, testing and validation.
  • Complete detailed hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) of rotating and static hardware to evaluate strength, fatigue, and creep.
  • Collaborate with team members from various fields to perform trade studies considering operating environment and duty cycle, to optimize design performance and durability.
  • Document stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Improve enterprise analysis capabilities by creating process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation.
  • Support test plan development to verify requirements and generate material and structural data.
