Job summary

Blue Origin Engines seeks a structural engineer to analyze and optimize engine components and systems, focusing on strength, fatigue and creep under varied duty cycles. You will perform FEA, hand calculations and trade studies with cross‑functional teams to ensure reliability and manufacturability.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering and 2+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Workbench, Nastran, Abaqus or LS-Dyna.
  • Solid understanding of structural analysis, failure modes (strength, fatigue, creep).
  • Experience with welded assemblies and bolted joints analysis.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications.
  • Experience with scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.).
  • Experience with structural analysis of combustion devices or heat exchangers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis of combustion devices, pressurized structures and heat exchangers through design, development, testing and validation.
  • Perform detailed hand calculations and finite element analysis to evaluate strength, fatigue and creep.
  • Evaluate bolted joints and flange separation with hand calculations and detailed analysis as required.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize design performance and durability.
  • Document stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Develop automation tools for model creation, strength checks and analysis reporting.
  • Support test plan development to verify requirements and generate data for design confidence.
