Job summary

Gusto is building tools to help savers secure their retirement. We’re hiring a senior full‑stack engineer to own backend services, APIs, and the UI for 401(k)s, IRAs, and related features.

This hands‑on role partners with Product, Design, Compliance and Operations. Expect a hybrid schedule with onboarding at a Gusto office and travel to offices as needed; you’ll ship reliable code that scales for over a million savers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience shipping production products or platforms.
• Experience with services and APIs and ownership of systems end-to-end.
• Experience with GraphQL and large frontend applications (React).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test the experience for savers to manage retirement accounts.
• Contribute to architecture to support new capabilities.
• Apply AI tools to reduce saver effort and guide decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Product, Design, Compliance, and Operations.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability and observability.
• Write clear, well-tested code that ships quickly and scales.
• Identify long-term investments to improve foundational systems.
