Job summary

Gusto is seeking a senior full-stack engineer to own backend services and APIs for retirement savings products. You will build interfaces savers use to manage accounts and collaborate with Product, Design, Compliance, and Operations to translate complex requirements into reliable software.

You’ll work on a highly visible Money Planning team that supports savers, employees, and entrepreneurs, delivering scalable features with an AI-native engineering approach.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering production-grade software.
• Strong ability to collaborate across Product, Design, Compliance, and Operations.
• Experience building services and APIs and owning end-to-end systems.
• Proven experience with modern frontend applications (React) and GraphQL.
• Comfort with production support and observability responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test user-facing features for savers managing 401(k)s and IRAs.
• Contribute to system architecture to support new capabilities.
• Apply AI tools to improve saver experience and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into reliable software.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability and tooling.
• Identify long-term investments to improve foundations and architecture.
• Write clear, well-tested code that ships quickly and scales.
