Job summary

Gusto is seeking a senior full-stack engineer to own end-to-end systems powering savers on retirement platforms. You will build backend services and APIs, craft frontend interfaces, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful financial tooling.

The role emphasizes delivering reliable software, applying AI to reduce saver effort, and shaping scalable architectures. On-site hybrid collaboration across Denver, San Francisco, and New York offices is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering production-grade products.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and modern frontend apps.
• Experience with APIs, GraphQL, and message-based systems such as Kafka/Sidekiq.
• Comfortable owning end-to-end systems and production support.
• Collaborates with PMs and cross-functional partners to deliver scoped work.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test the savers experience for retirement accounts (401(k)s, IRAs).
• Contribute to the architecture of existing systems to enable new capabilities.
• Apply AI tools in engineering workflows and bring an AI-native lens to decisions.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability, observability, and tooling.
• Write clear, well-tested code that ships quickly and scales.
