Altana is redefining trusted global trade with an AI-powered product network. We seek a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the AI behind Altana Nexus, building real-time risk, compliance and enforcement decisions from trade data.

You will own architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product teams to ship agentic ML capabilities at scale. This role offers remote or hybrid work in the US/UK, with hub options in NYC, Boston, DC, or London.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and shipping ML systems in production.
• Deep expertise in PyTorch and the modern Python ML stack.
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications: retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, structured outputs, and agentic workflows.
• Shipped agentic systems in production and know their failure modes: tool use, planning, state, recovery and human-in-the-loop.
• Experience post-training or adapting LLMs (SFT, DPO, RLHF/RLAIF, reward modeling) for a production use case.
• Rigorous evaluation: you’ve built eval suites, golden datasets and LLM-as-judge pipelines.
• Sound judgment on when to use frontier model API, fine‑tuned open‑weight model, or classical ML model.
• Willingness to get hands dirty in data and domain to achieve measurable outcomes.
• Strong engineering excellence and knowledge-sharing.

Responsabilités

• Define the architecture and roadmap for agentic models processing trade data and turning it into real-time risk, classification and compliance decisions.
• Design the ingestion-to-decision pipeline for reliable, cost-efficient processing at global trade scale.
• Fine-tune and post-train models using analyst feedback, production outcomes and agent traces.
• Design observability, evals, tracing and feedback loops to catch regressions in production.
• Mentor senior engineers, raise the technical bar across Engineering, and help shape ML hiring and leveling.
• Shape the product and business by collaborating with software engineers, data scientists, product managers and customers to ship capabilities.
