Job summary

Altana is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the AI behind Altana Nexus, our agentic platform for global trade. You will shape models and systems that turn trade data into real-time risk, compliance and enforcement decisions for governments and the world’s largest companies.

You will own end-to-end ML pipelines, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, data scientists and customers to ship impactful capabilities across multi‑cloud environments.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, ML, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years building and shipping ML systems in production with product impact.
• Deep expertise in PyTorch and modern Python ML stack (Hugging Face, scikit-learn, NumPy, Pandas/Polars).
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications: RAG, tool calling, agentic workflows.
• Experience post-training/adapting LLMs (SFT, DPO, RLHF/RLAIF) for production.
• Proven ability to ship agentic systems and manage failure modes.

Responsibilities

• Drive the technical direction for agentic systems and real‑time decisions on trade data.
• Build end‑to‑end pipelines from ingestion to decision across global data streams.
• Fine‑tune and post‑train models using feedback and agent traces for measurable gains.
• Design observability, evals, tracing and feedback loops for production systems.
• Mentor senior engineers and shape ML hiring and level standards.
• Collaborate with software, data science, product and customers to ship capabilities.
