Job summary

Altana, the network for trusted trade, is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the AI behind Altana Nexus. You will work on real-time risk, compliance and enforcement decisions using public and proprietary trade data at scale.

You will define architecture for agentic systems, build ingestion-to-decision pipelines, tune models, ensure observability, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and customers to ship impactful capabilities.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
• 8+ years building and shipping ML systems in production
• Deep expertise in PyTorch and the modern Python ML stack
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications
• Experience post-training or adapting LLMs for production use cases
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Sound judgment on model choice based on cost, latency, accuracy
• Rigorous about evaluation and building eval suites

Responsibilities

• Drive the technical direction for agentic systems and roadmap for real-time risk and compliance decisions
• Build end-to-end pipelines from data ingestion to decision across models
• Tune models using feedback, post-training, and RL to beat prompting baselines
• Design observability, evals, tracing, and feedback loops for production health
• Mentor senior engineers and raise the technical bar across Engineering
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and customers to turn ambiguous problems into shipped capabilities
