Job summary

Affirm is building a ledger-backed backend platform to power honest, customer-friendly credit and buy-now-pay-later offerings. The Ledger Engineering team focuses on auditable, highly scalable systems and close collaboration with accounting and capital markets teams.

You will set long-term technical strategy, drive critical projects, and lead a team to deliver reliable, scalable services using Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
• Experience with Python or Kotlin within distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes
• Background in financial systems, ledgering or treasury domains
• Ability to define technical strategy and drive execution across teams
• Strong code quality, architectural thinking and written communication

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure sustainable solutions
• Define and advocate for robust technical solutions and processes
• Own operations and availability with monitoring, on-call runbooks and playbooks
• Uphold coding and design standards and mentor team members
• Develop talent through feedback and leadership by example
