Job summary

Reuters is seeking a Lead Software Engineer AI (Staff Engineer) to guide the CoCounsel AI team in delivering agentic legal software. You will architect backend services, drive AI strategy, and mentor engineers while ensuring security, observability, and reliability at scale.

You will collaborate with product managers and designers to turn concepts into production-ready features, integrating with major LLM providers and building robust CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in technical leadership and 3+ years building scalable cloud applications.
• Proven track record of shipping production-grade AI systems to customers with deployment, monitoring, and ownership in enterprise environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS or Azure cloud services; experience with CI/CD and observability.

Responsibilities

• Build and architect AI agentic driven systems and back-end services.
• Drive technical strategy, experimentation, testing, and operational excellence for AI features.
• Lead architecture decisions and mentor engineers to deliver scalable, production-ready features.
