Job summary

Thomson Reuters in the United States is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – AI to join the CoCounsel team. You will build backend services that enable real-time AI interactions for our legal productivity tools and scale concepts into production features.

You will work with Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and cloud services to deliver scalable, production-ready AI capabilities, collaborating across product, labs, and design.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production backend systems, APIs, and microservices used by real customers.
• Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and cloud services (AWS or Azure).
• Excellent debugging skills and ability to deliver production‑ready, highly reliable systems.
• Comfortable operating in fast‑paced, iterative environments with strong cross‑functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Build AI‑Powered Backend Systems: Design and build backend services using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL to support real‑time AI interactions and large‑scale data flows.
• Shape Platform Architecture: Define service boundaries, system interfaces, and scalable design patterns that form the architectural foundation of our AI products.
• Productionize AI Capabilities: Integrate backend systems with modern LLM providers and implement orchestration, routing, guardrails, telemetry, and deep observability.
• Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation to support fast, stable, cloud‑native development workflows.
• Collaborate Cross‑Functionally: Partner with Labs, product managers, and designers to turn AI concepts into scalable features.
• Mentor Engineers: Support the growth of other engineers through pairing and code reviews.
