Job summary

CGS Federal is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to manage Microsoft SQL Server environments, including replication, backups, and performance tuning. The role covers migrations from SQL Server 2012 to 2016 and supporting daily systems administration tasks.

You'll work with VMware/Hyper‑V in a federal services context, implement SQL/DB tooling, and help maintain data integrity across environments. Hybrid and cloud experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years relevant experience related directly to SQL Server Database Administration.
• Experience with replication, backup/restore, and performance tuning.
• Ability to migrate databases between SQL Server versions.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper‑V.
• Experience with AWS RDS PostgreSQL and cloud environments (Azure/AWS).
• Ability to document, explain, and present tasks and decisions.
• Experience with SDLC, source/control, bug tracking.

Responsibilities

• Administering Microsoft SQL Server including Replication, Backup/Restore procedures, Capacity Planning, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services.
• Migrating databases from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016.
• Providing all aspects of basic systems administration support including planning, testing, installations, and configurations of new hardware and software.
• Recommending/implementing solutions for SQL performance monitoring and tuning.
• Implement, deploy, and/or support Microsoft Technologies such as Visual Studio Framework, VB.NET, ASP, NET and Web Services.
• Support visualization technologies such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper‑V, creating and configuring virtual machines.
• Performing back ups of the web, application, and database servers according to MPA policies and procedures.
• Performing database activities such as monitoring, space management, and support, as well as extended hours of support for database systems when required.
