Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriter to join Hanover Specialty Insurance in Indianapolis. The role focuses on underwriting renewal Specialty accounts, driving profitable growth, and aligning with appetite and mix goals.

The incumbent will apply advanced technical, sales and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions, manage a high-complexity book of business, and operate with limited direction within a Letter of Authority.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years Underwriting experience.
• 3+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable renewal business.
• Proficient in identifying, analyzing and solving problems and managing multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Identify, solicit, and underwrite renewal Specialty accounts.
• Apply advanced underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure, and loss analysis.
• Price concepts and rating methodology with correlation to exposure and financials.
• Adhere to CAT guidelines and aggregation strategies in decision making.
• Explain coverages and exposures to agents to support our value-added proposition.
• Manage portfolio to achieve gross written premium and profitability targets.
• Develop and execute portfolio business plans with internal and external resources.
• Drive relationship management and producer activities to improve yield and retention.
• Engage with specialty departments to grow cross-sell opportunities.
