Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS), an Akima company, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and procure specialty equipment for DOE projects at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, TN and Pantex in Amarillo, TX.

Responsibilities include building design packages, drafting equipment specs and datasheets, and performing FEA/thermal/structural analyses, while leading multi-discipline teams to deliver build-to-print solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of design/specification experience for custom mechanical equipment.
• Total experience of 20+ years.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited school.
• Active DOE Q clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Create design and procurement documents for specialty equipment (e.g., glovebox systems, furnaces, high vacuum systems).
• Develop procurement documents: equipment specifications, statements of work, datasheets.
• Perform calculations/analysis (FEA, structural/seismic, ergonomic, kinematic, heat transfer).
• Lead multi-discipline teams (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls, HVAC, piping, welding).
• Produce build-to-print fabrication packages (drawings, specifications, procurement docs).
• Generate 3D CAD models using PTC Creo and/or SolidWorks.
