Job summary

CesiumAstro in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design of power converters and management architectures for satellites. You will drive concepts through production release, including verification, testing, and system integration across diverse teams.

Required BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in analog/power electronics; preferred MS/PhD and space/defense experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or related) from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience designing analog and power electronics.
• Experience with power system architectures and SWAP-C trade studies for size, weight, power, and cost optimization.
• Experience with power stage design of common DC-DC converter topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, flyback, forward).
• Experience with voltage-mode and peak current-mode control for DC-DC converters.
• Knowledge of control theory and stability of power electronics.
• Extensive hands-on testing with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, impedance/spectrum analyzers, electronic loads).
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layouts (Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, or Xpedition).
• Experience with SPICE-like tools and MATLAB/Simulink for modeling and simulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Define electrical power system architecture and derive subsystem requirements.
• Design DC-DC power converters, power conditioning, power management, and control circuits from concept to production release.
• Perform detailed design for analog and power electronics circuits from single converters to multi-output modules.
• Model and analyze analog and power electronics designs (WCA, stress analysis, FMEA, reliability, power integrity).
• Develop design verification tests, requirement matrices, system integration, and production test plans.
• Lead board bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics.
• Lead system integration, qualification campaigns, and release of designs into production.
• Mentor younger engineers and foster knowledge sharing.
• Perform research and monitor power electronics industry trends.
