Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Communication Systems Engineer to lead space-based communication payload initiatives in a startup-like environment. You will own system concepts, architecture, CONOPS, and risk assessments for satellites and aerospace platforms, coordinating across engineering, management, and suppliers.

The role requires 8+ years in space communications, RF/antenna expertise, and strong communication with vendors and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience with space-based communication payloads.
• Experience with antenna and RF systems.
• Proven collaboration with product/component developers and vendors.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Proficiency with DOORS or Jama requirements tools.
• Ability to define work direction and track milestones.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements from customer and operational needs and ensure interfaces match.
• Collaborate with program management on scheduling and coordination.
• Serve as primary outward-facing technical contact with external customers.
• Liaise among program management, engineering, and manufacturing for clear communications.
• Develop system engineering processes for requirements flow and traceability.
• Perform risk analysis and mitigation planning.
• Identify and resolve issues impeding engineering progress.
• Foster efficiency and continuous improvement across programs.
