Job summary

CesiumAstro in Denver, CO is seeking a Staff Communication Systems Engineer to lead space-based communication payload systems and serve as the technical lead for programs. You will shape space architecture concepts, subsystems, payload design, and requirements, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams to ensure success.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in system engineering for space tech, 8+ years in payloads, RF/antenna experience, and proficiency with DOORS or Jama.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience with emphasis on space-based communication payloads.
• Practical experience with antenna and RF systems.
• Experience working with product/component developers and vendors.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Proficiency with a requirements management tool such as DOORS or Jama.
• Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and demonstrate progress on large open-ended projects.
• Sense of urgency and ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work well with multifunctional teams.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer and operational needs to define requirements and ensure interface compatibility.
• Collaborate with program management to support scheduling and coordination.
• Be the primary outward-facing technical contact for external customers on baseline discussions.
• Act as liaison among program management, engineering, and manufacturing for clear communications.
• Develop system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability.
• Perform risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
• Identify and resolve issues that may impede progress of engineering teams.
• Foster efficiency and continuous improvement across programs.
