Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to join the Veterans Affairs (VA) portfolio on a 100% remote basis. You will design and execute test plans for complex information systems, focusing on high-quality software deliverables and strong programming skills.

The role requires strong programming skills in C#, .NET, Java, or Python, and a track record across manual and automated testing, SDLC, and risk-based approaches.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC understanding.
• Proficiency in writing/executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks/tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing tools such as JMeter/Gatling.
• Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of DB/SQL for validating data.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, services.
• Security testing practices knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure systems meet standards.
• Develop test schedules and approach.
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers/Leads.
• Perform tests to ensure operation and defect-free software.
• Document and communicate test results.
• Support analysis and resolution of issues.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT engineering activities.
• Apply technical principles to achieve objectives.
• Provide direction per policies and guidance.
• Review work for adequacy and accuracy.
• Demonstrate good judgment in testing methods.
• Contribute to programs/projects and external communications.
