Job summary

RTX in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Principal Software Safety Engineer II to join our System Safety team. You will develop MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs, assess hazards, and coordinate safety activities across hardware, software, and firmware engineering functions.

Ideal candidates bring a STEM degree and 8+ years of safety program management experience, and you will interact with DoD customers, engineering reviews, and safety boards to ensure compliance and mission readiness.

Qualifications

• Requires STEM degree and 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with MIL-STD 882E and safety standards.
• Experience writing technical reports and presenting safety status.
• Experience managing a safety program.

Responsibilities

• Develop MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs (management, analysis, evaluation, verification).
• Coordinate safety activities across system hardware, software, and firmware engineering.
• Lead safety reviews and boards; communicate risks and corrective actions.
• Mentor junior safety engineers and collaborate with program management.
