Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer in Aurora, CO to lead MIL-STD-882E safety programs, manage safety tasks across the program lifecycle, and mentor junior engineers. The role interfaces with government customers, program leadership, and cross-functional teams to ensure safety compliance and risk mitigation.

You will perform safety analyses, manage safety budgets, and guide safety decisions during design, testing, and production, while advancing the organization’s safety culture

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses.
• Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
• Experience briefing safety status to safety approval authority at technical reviews or safety boards.
• Experience managing or owning a safety program.

Responsibilities

• Develop MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs and manage tasks across the program lifecycle.
• Lead safety program execution and mentor early-career safety engineers.
• Coordinate with government customers and internal teams to assess risks and implement controls.
• Conduct safety analyses of designs, drawings, and requirements for fault tolerance and compliance.
• Oversee lifecycle safety from design through disposal and support continuous safety improvements.
