Job summary

BuildOps is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in the San Francisco area for end-to-end ownership of product features across frontend and backend. You’ll work with product, design, and engineering to translate complex problems into scalable, reliable solutions, mentoring teammates and driving architectural decisions.

You will enjoy a hybrid schedule (in-office Tue–Thu) with work-from-home on Mon and Fri, and engage with AI-assisted development to raise the bar on quality and velocity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong fundamentals across frontend and backend systems and APIs.
• Experience designing reliable APIs and user-facing features in modern production environments.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in CS/Engineering from a top university.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality features across frontend and backend applications.
• Own projects through full lifecycle from design to rollout and maintenance.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering to translate problems into clear technical plans.
• Write clean, tested code with emphasis on simplicity, reliability, and extensibility.
• Build user-facing experiences and supporting APIs across boundaries.
• Design systems with observability, dashboards, and health checks for reliability.
• Improve performance, scalability, and resilience of products and systems.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and guidance.
• Promote a collaborative, high-accountability engineering culture.
