Job summary

BuildOps is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale product experiences across frontend and backend systems. You will own projects end-to-end, write reliable code, and collaborate with product, design, and engineering to deliver high-impact workflows for commercial contractors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong fundamentals with frontend and backend product features.
• Experience building reliable APIs and user-facing applications.
• Ability to decompose complex problems into maintainable solutions.
• Relational databases, data modeling, and tradeoffs.
• Experience with modern web app patterns and customer-facing products.
• Ambiguity tolerance and ability to make good technical decisions.
• Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
• Clear written and verbal communication, design docs, and architectural discussions.
• Mentoring teammates to raise team quality.
• Ownership and accountability for shipping and operating software.
• Comfort in a fast-paced startup with evolving priorities.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain features across frontend and backend applications.
• Own projects end-to-end from design through rollout and maintenance.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineers to translate problems into plans.
• Write clean, tested code with emphasis on reliability and extensibility.
• Create user-facing experiences and APIs spanning client, service, and data boundaries.
• Design observability, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and health checks.
• Improve performance, scalability, and resilience of systems.
• Identify risks and dependencies early to avoid bottlenecks.
• Contribute to design reviews and architectural decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
• Foster collaboration and strong engineering culture.
• Apply AI tools to accelerate development and productivity.
