Job summary

AppFolio is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Permissions team to design and build an authorization platform used across all AppFolio products. You will craft fast, reliable permissions checks and tools to empower other teams while maintaining strong security and scalability.

You will mentor engineers, participate in design reviews, and collaborate with product and security teams to turn complex access-control needs into simple, robust systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Experience with authorization, authentication, or other security-sensitive systems is a plus.
• Fluency with AI coding agents and ability to apply AI in development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the authorization platform — the roles, policies, and access checks that other teams build on top of.
• Improve the speed and reliability of permission checks as usage grows and set performance/availability goals.
• Build interfaces, libraries, and tooling for easy integration of access control across features.
