Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Permissions team to build and operate an authorization platform that defines roles, policies, and access checks across products. You will design scalable systems, improve performance, and provide tooling for teams to implement access control safely.

You will mentor engineers, engage with product and security teams, and own end-to-end quality with automated testing and controlled rollouts.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Experience with authorization, authentication, or other security-sensitive systems is a plus.
• Strong collaboration and written communication across teams to drive decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the authorization platform used across AppFolio products.
• Improve speed and reliability of permission checks as usage grows.
• Create interfaces and tooling for teams to add access control safely.
• Lead migration of legacy permissions logic to the modern authorization platform.
