Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Permissions team in Denver. You will help build the authorization platform that decides who can do what across AppFolio products, ensuring data safety and trusted workflows.

You will design scalable access-control systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and security teams to turn ambiguous needs into simple, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building and operating production systems.
• Experience with authorization, authentication, or security-sensitive systems is a plus.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Go, or React with TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the authorization platform.
• Improve speed and reliability of permission checks at scale.
• Build interfaces and tooling for teams to add access control.
• Lead migration of legacy permissions logic to modern platform.
• Contribute to design reviews and documentation to inform decisions.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, security, and auth teams.
• Own end-to-end quality with testing, feature flags, and observability.
