Job summary

State of South Carolina DJJ seeks a Lieutenant to lead security operations within a residential facility, supervising security staff, coordinating shifts, mentoring officers, and ensuring youth safety and policy compliance.

Under limited supervision, you will implement procedures, respond to emergencies, conduct inspections, maintain reports, and contribute to rehabilitative goals through positive youth development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and supervisory experience in correctional, security or police work.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of state law and DJJ facility rules and procedures.
• Ability to supervise staff and mentor officers.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a state vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Engages with youth to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation and well-being.
• Supervises security staff and coordinates shift coverage.
• Responds to emergencies and conducts inspections.
• Maintains required reports and documentation.
• Mediates disputes and enforces agency policy.
