Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a capable Lieutenant to assist in strategic planning, implement facility operations, and ensure safety for youth and staff. You will supervise security personnel, manage shift activity and coordinate response to incidents within a secure juvenile facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and supervisory experience in correctional, security or police work.
• Bachelor's degree in human services or criminal justice may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of state law and DJJ facility operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Engages with youth to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation and well-being.
• Communicates with youth throughout the day.
• Responds to emergencies physically when required.
• Supervises and mentors security staff.
• Maintains inventory of security equipment.
• Prepares reports on youth and staff incidents.
