Job summary

State of South Carolina DJJ seeks a Captain to lead security staff and oversee safety, order, and rehabilitation within a juvenile facility. You will direct Lieutenants, Sergeants, and JCOs to maintain a secure, supportive environment for youth in care.

The role requires a high school diploma with supervisory experience; a bachelor’s degree in human services or criminal justice may substitute. Expect shift work, overtime, and coordination with training and operations teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and supervisory experience (minimum).
• Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field may substitute for supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Engages with youth to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation, and well‑being.
• Directs and coordinates actions of security staff under supervision.
• Directs training and ensures staff are current on required trainings and certifications.
• Manages staff performance, disciplinary actions, and staffing levels for youth ratios.
• Oversees facility operations, inspections, security checks, and incident responses.
• Produces reports and participates in committees regarding youth welfare and safety.
