Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Software Developer in Test (SDET) for a 100% remote role supporting the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The position emphasizes strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python and robust test automation experience.

Applicants should have hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum, SDLC, and CI/CD pipelines, plus familiarity with Selenium, TestNG/JUnit, and API testing. This is a full-time, W2 opportunity requiring U.S. citizenship and a Public Trust (MBI).

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python (as listed).
• Proven track record on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• CI/CD tools experience (GitHub Actions).
• Version control familiarity (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing (JMeter/Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of SQL for validating data.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT testing.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure information systems meet standards and requirements.
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios.
• Review test cases/scripts with managers and leads.
• Perform tests on IT systems to ensure defect-free operation.
• Document and communicate test results.
• Support analysis and resolution of open issues.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities.
• Apply technical principles and concepts in the field.
